When we woke at 6am and looked out of the train window on the way to Denver there was SNOW everywhere and stayed the same way all the way to DENVER!!!!!!
We've had a lovely relaxing time in Denver. 3 days with Carol & Charly (Clare's exchange family). There was snow on the ground everywhere from a few days earlier! We strolled Littleton Downtown, walked in the park & generally had lovely relaxing time.
Kristin's (Clare's Exchange partner) twin sister Shannon expected her first baby on 26 Nov. On our last day with them, husband Nick rang from the hospital 2 hours before we left to say Shannon was in labour. Baby boy Remy born about 4.30 & Carol rang to let us know - all very exciting for them, their first grandchild.
Anne's (Scott's American mum) picked us up & we went to her sister Joan's place to prepare for Thanksgiving the next day. Her sister Joan (in blue apron) & husband (Ken) are Jews. For the first time since 1888, Hannukka & Thanksgiving fell on the same day & it won't happen again for 79,000 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
So they (Becca & Beth (check shirt - Scott's partner) , Anne's (in black apron) daughters, mother & Joan & her 2 children & their new Lebanese Exchange student!!!! & us helped cook and set tables & prepared for dinner there today.
Foods to suit all the 29 family and friends were cooked - vegetable dishes (curries etc), sweet potato dishes, pumpkin, cherry, pumpkin, pecan, walnut and chocolate pies - the lot.
We had 2 beautiful soups for lunch with 2 different breads Joan had made - a sweet cranberry one & a special Jewish plaited loaf.
Warren played outside with 5 year old grandson Tristan (Joan, his grandmother) had set out 2 treasure walks & they found lots of things along the way!!!! Joan's son and daughter made the place cards - an appropriate picture and saying on each one eg Tristan's one based around Octopus Prime.
It was the Exchange student, Mira's 16th birthday so we had 2 birthday cakes after lunch ( a lemon one & a banana vegan one - both yum!!!). Mira loved helping Becca make the pastries & pies!!!!
Today (Thanksgiving) we watched the Macy's Parade from New York on TV; then Paul and Anne took us up Mountain Lookout Road (7.500') to see over Denver (5218') below! before going to Joan and Ken's.
Joan had cooked the turkeys and Ken cut them!!
Before the beautiful meal we had the Jewish ceremony and the four youngest lit the two candles on the mennorahs.
It was a wonderful happy evening of eating, drinking and sharing with family and friends. We felt really privileged to be a part of it all.
