This is out of order but worth hearing & seeing some photos of Belfast! We drove to Belfast from Enniskillen with Jen (before going to Scotland). It was motorway most of the way.
We stopped off at Colebrooke to put some a plant with yellow flowers (Aussie green & gold!) on our g-g-grandparent's grave - John Collum & Elixa Baxter. Our g-grandfather, Robert Collum, (their son) was last to come (as far as I know) from Australia in about 1915/16 when he went back to Ireland to see his mother. She died in 1917.
We did a quick drive around Colebrooke House just to show Jen & then couldn't get out because the gate was closed!!!!! So we had to drive back & out the back entrance. There were CCTV cameras everywhere but we didn't see anyone & haven't heard anything since!
We also drove around Portadown on the way to Belfast as I recently found out Dad's grandfather (James MOORE) was born there in 1828!
We loved Belfast - did the hop on / hop off bus around the city. Had a guy then lady give the commentary & interesting to hear them describe 'The Troubles'. Both said everyone just wants to move forward' (I wonder if that's where Julia & KR heard the term???) & get on with their lives.
The Titanic Exhibition is wonderful! Housed in silver boats'-shaped building, covered in silver/grey 'swirls' that depict the waves. Each section (designing it, building it, outfitting it, passengers/crew on board, the launch, hitting the iceberg, sinking, rescue efforts, enquiries, search for it) all done so well - graphically & orally.
We left Belfast by Ulster bus to drive 20 mins to the dock; walked on board BIG Stena ferry; 2 & half hour trip); walked onto a coach for 2 hour drive up the coast (beautiful scenery) to Glasgow. We stayed there overnight before hiring a car & setting off on our Scottish adventure!
My favourite saying - seen when leaving quite a few Scottish villages - 'Haste you back'!!!!!
